LafargeHolcim – Acquisition 6 for 2019

LafargeHolcim continues its expansion course – 6 acquisitions so far in 2019 – by taking over the Romanian company Somaco. Somaco is a leading manufacturer in Eastern Europe of precast concrete products.

Somaco employs 750 people and has net sales of approximately 56 million euros. No information is available to the price of the transaction, which still needs the green light from the relevant competition authorities. The deal is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.

As background: Somaco operates five precast concrete plants as well as a factory for aerated concrete blocks. The precast concrete parts are used for bridges, tunnels, subways and logistics platforms, as well as for residential construction.

LafargeHolcim expects the Eastern European precast concrete market to continue growing rapidly over the next few years. LafargeHolcim to date has only been present in Romania in the cement, ready-mixed concrete and aggregates sectors.
