There is a new star on the Swiss business horizon, and her name is Magdalena Martullo-Blocher.

EMS continued their positive sales and earnings development from previous years. Concerning revenue, the group exceeded its targets.

According to an EMS press release, sales in the past financial year rose by 8.2 percent to around 2.1 billion Swiss francs. As a result, EMS, which focuses on polymers and specialty chemicals, achieved the targeted sales mark of CHF 2 billion.

Operating earnings at EBIT increased by approximately 6.3 percent to 582 million Swiss francs. Group profit also increased by 6.3 percent to 484 million Swiss francs. However, profit margins slipped slightly.

The primary reason for the positive developments in sales and, despite the weakening automotive industry, EMS was able to grow disproportionately to the market with innovative products. In addition, the increase in raw material prices contributed to the increase in sales, as the company adjusted its selling prices several times.

The Annual General Meeting will propose a dividend of CHF 18 per share - an increase of CHF 1 per share.

For 2018, the management of EMS is optimistic and expects to be able to slightly exceed sales and operating profit at EBIT level.
