Exchange of the year nomination!

Exchange of the year nomination!

Congratulations to the Swiss Stock Exchange  for being nominated as "Exchange Group of the Year", alongside Aquis, Cboe Europe, Euronext and London Stock Exchange.

In January 2020 the Swiss Stock Exchange already won the award for Best Structured Products and Derivatives Exchange.

The nomination for Exchange Group of the Year recognizes the Swiss Stock Exchanges relentless efforts to deliver best-in-class services through innovation with a clear focus on the customer.

The Swiss Stock Exchange is at the heart of the Swiss financial centre and economy and the nomination proves that the Swiss Stock Exchange is one of Europe’s leading destinations for listing and capital raising. It is one of the most technologically advanced and most stable exchanges in the world, that includes post-trade services to cover the entire securities value chain. It has proven its stability and resilience not just in 2019, when it seamlessly integrated additional volumes following the EU’s decision on equivalence, but also very recently, in the market turmoil caused by the Corona virus.

The nomination also recognises impressive milestones that were reached in 2019, seven new companies joined and, the overall transaction volume was the fourth largest on a European exchange (CHF 3.1 billion) Over CHF 71 billion was raised through bonds.

There were 186 new listings in the ETF segment bringing the total to 1'541 ETFs, and structured product listings grew by +7.8%, to reach a total of 42'401 in 2019.

Concerns about the loss of EU equivalency at the end of June 2019, were unfounded and the transition of virtually all trading volumes in Swiss shares onto their home market went smoothly. For 2019, trading turnover was up +8.5% over the previous year to reach almost CHF 1'500 billion and the number of trades grew +6.1% to a total of 64'008'204 transactions.

Additionally, in 2019, the Swiss Stock Exchange also saw its CONNEXOR service support the sourcing and distribution of around 15 million product updates, representing approximately 50'000 fully automated lifecycle events every day. CONNEXOR also continued its geographic expansion and was implemented in Asia for the first time.

The winners of the Financial News awards will be announced at a gala dinner due to be held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London on 30 September 2020.
