Unemployment rate in Switzerland continues to fall

In April 2017, fewer people were unemployed in Switzerland than in March and also less than in April 2016. The unemployment rate fell to 3.3 percent in April from 3.4 percent in March 2017.
In total, 146'237 unemployed persons were registered with the regional employment services centers (RAV) in April. This was 5'953 less than in March, as the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) today announced. Compared to April 2016 unemployment fell by 2.1 per cent to 3'213 persons.
Accordingly, fewer jobseekers were registered. Their number decreased by 8891 in April compared to March. A total of 208'357 jobseekers were registered.
Youth unemployment fell sharply: among the 15 to 24 year olds, the number of jobless fell by 7.7 percent compared to March. This corresponds to a decrease of 1'347 persons. Compared to the previous month, the rate of youth unemployment decreased by 9.3 percent.
